INGLOT Cosmetics

So my new makeup addiction is Inglot Cosmetics! I have made several trips up to Las vegas This year for work and on each trip I raid the store several times.  On one ocassion visited the store three times in one day!

Cesers Palace Forum Shops LV NV
I can honestly say that this line can kick MAC's bum! Yes and many of you know that my artistry background comes from MAC and has been my cult favorite hands down!

On my visits I was able to speak to several of the Inglot crew (Brenda, George, Zay, Phillip, and Manger Oscar Camacho!)

The pigments in all thier line are super intense whether you are swatching eyeshadow or or lip color or gel liners and powders this line is definately more bang for your buck!

So on my first Trip and the first of that day, I went in checked it out and asked about artisty professional discounts which are available for Makeup Artists. Please keep in mind that if you are an MUA and are planning on visiting the INGLOT store in Vegas or NYC, please bring a business card, comp card, tearsheet, and other credetials to apply for your inglot card.

On more recent trips and my plenty conversations with the staff I wanted to know what the DS, AMC, Pearl, & Shine ment on thier numbersing system.

Inglot has a number system for thier products so for instance if you want a color similar to carbon from mac you would ask for #63 AMC.

AMC stands for Advance Makeup Cosmetics- These products are extreme pigmentations, are high def quality and preffered for high artisty work and film print etc.

DS stands for double shine- these products have glitter in them, no not the chunky kind that you cant blend, the refined kind they add tons of dimension to matt shadows and are currently my favorite everyday shadows.

Shine stands for ...well that self explanatory- These shadows pack on high shine they are mostly frosty shadow but when blended they give off a metalic shine to them.

Pearl stands for... another no brainer- These shadows are like you MAC frost or pearl shadow they dont have a high metallic shine they have a low shine with amazing crushed pearl soft and velvety.

They also carry rainbow shadows these shadows are complete matte high pigment and they do not necesarily need a shadow base/primer. I do reccomend one because thier color is so intense they will stain your lid.  On my more recent trip I purchased all the rainbow collection.

The lipsticks also come in freedom system palattes. So you can purchase lipsticks and create your own palattes of 5, 10, 20, or 40.  they have different lip glosses some are clear with amazing duo chrome and others are full pigment and come in teaster tube like containers so they are slim fitting for pockets or cocktail purses.

I am so excited to travel with my freedom system it has really condensed my professional kit and I can take all my favorite Inglot products.

Take a look below at my haul video from my very first trip to inglot and stay tuned to the end of the video for pictures.

My Latest Stage Makeup Experiance: 2011 Arnold

I've been in this industry for 6 years now and I am truly blessed to say I love every bit of it and the opportunities it has given me.

One of my best opportunities was back in 2004 where I met my now best friend Adela Garcia.  Over the years her friendship has kept me giggling all the way through to the recent Arnold 2011.

I remember times where it was so hard to hold our laughter in and almost peed in our pants.  One time she tried to stuff me into her luggage to roll me into the backstage of the Olympia because she insisted that I be backstage with her.  Another time we sat and watched her off challange team holding hands like long lost sisters at Dave Goodin's NPC show in Austin TX. There has been many memories, training together, cooking her some turkey breasts, running & conquering lake Pflugerville, prancing around her house on Thanksgiving Day to Ricky Martin and playing just dance 2 on the wii or the time it was about 3 in the morning after a show heading back to our room tearing off our fakelashes and sticking them on someone's hotel door.  Yes she is quite the partner in crime!

My lastest experiance was watching her walk onto the stage at the 2011 Arnold Sports Festival. I gasped as I saw her, her makeup was radiant her hair her suit everything was spot on.  I thought to myself she's such an amazing friend I'm so honored that she would entrust me with her makeup year after year and show after show.

Over the years just as our friendship has grown so has my experiance in stage makeup and I have developed new techniques that make competitors have a natural beauty, glamourous and timeless.

That evening after she picked up her trophy and finished her interviews we headed out to create even more memories.  Along with her fiancee' Trent, O.F.F. Challenge team member Alea Suarez IFBB Pro and Camala Rodriguez IFBB Pro, we ate pizza, and danced the peewee herman on top of the tables at Plank's pizza in Columbus Ohio.  I must say we know how to create memories that last a lifetime....and I can help you create a stage look that will create a lifetime memory of an amazing time on stage!

2011 Golden Globes Sofia Vergara Inspired Makeup

I had the pleasure of meeting Sofia Vergara sometime around 2000/2001. She was along with Harry Gainer, and Adriana Lavat, the host of a TV show titled "A Que No Te Atreves" that aired on Univision.

She was splendid and had a natural talent and incredibly friendly with the guests and audience members.  Yes, and your truly appeared on the show, dressed up as a cavewoman!

Her dress at the 68th Annual Golden Globe Awards was a total hit. It was absolutely sensational.  It cried out I'm LATINA!
Thanks sofia for empowering Latinas showing us that language has no barries and borders.  She has been able to dominate the English language and embraced her accent.  It's what gives her sex appeal apart from all her wonderful assets! Here is a tutorial on how to achieve this sexy Latina look!

J's Top 10 Makeup Habits to Leave in 2010

So here is my top 10 list of bad habits to ditch!
1. Skipping the Gym!
Apart from making you feel good, exercise as we all know increases blood flow to the skin.  Voila you get a super healthy looking flushed look on your face! Since exercise decreases stress and tension it reduces cortisol levels which reduces the acne and skin aggravations that are caused by being super frazzled!

Which leads me to number...

2. Eating Junk Food
The old adage "you are what you eat" has definitely been proven.  According to the Journal of American Academy of Dermatology , High glycemic foods and processed carbs lead to more breakouts and stimulate oil producing hormones.  So ditch the chips and sodas and stick to healthy snacks suck as nuts, raw veggies, peanut butter and fruits.  Follow @ToscaReno @AmyLeeMartin @Jamie_Eason on twitter for great tips on eating healthy!

3. Don't drink too much!
Yes I know I'm taking all the fun out but if you must drink have a glass of red wine which is packed with antioxidants and artery scrubbing flavonoids (see Blue Zone) I Love the book by Dan Buetnner that discovers how centenarians are able to live so long.  On the other hand drink too much increases inflammation and can lead to skin sagging over time.

4.Not washing your face at night!
Did you know that if you sleep in your makeup you age 7 days? Congrats you are now seven days older than you were the day before. Leaving your makeup on clogs pores and leaving all the sweat and daily grind junk and oil causes free radical damage to increase.  Another reason is that skin repairs itself at nite hence the ageing when you leave it on. Finally, it creates a breeding ground for bacteria, eww grossies!

Which leads me to number...

5 Not washing you makeup Brushes
Dirty makeup brushes are GROSSIES!!! They transfer old makeup, germs, and bacteria each time you use them and who wants that on their skin. Dirty makeup brushes prevent a flawless application so for a younger looking you keep those darn brushes clean!

6. Neglecting You Eyes!
The skin around our eyes is thinner than the skin in any other part of our body, add constant rubbing and pulling and you are sure to start seeing signs of aging.  So number 1) Stop Rubbing your Eyes, 2) use a daily eye cream in the A.M. and Before bed. I use Arbonne's Intelligence line Daily Eye Cream. 3) Stop waxing, waxing pulls the skin and causes trauma to the skin around the eye, opt for tweezing or threading which is less traumatic on the skin.

7. Matching your makeup to your outfit
Yes, I have said this one too many please don't match your makeup to your clothes.  This makes you look dated and old. Instead try this if you are wearing an over the top outfit with lots of bright colors and bling try a soft neutral palette and enhance the drama on your makeup with liquid liner and some "wow" falsies.  If you are going for a little black dress or neutral colors play up your eyes with a purple smokey or do a vintage look with hot red lips and ultra thick liner.

8. Playing up 1 feature not all of them
If your going ultra dramatic in the eyes play down your lip color and if you have soft natural colors on your eyes then tweak up you look with red, orange or hot pink lips! Do one or the other but please don't do both.

9. Bleeding red Lips
So if you decided to play your lips up select a color staying rouge.  Try MAC Prolong Wear Lip Cream in Prolong, Perpetual Flame or Extended Play or MAC Prolong wear Lipcolour in Passion Preserved. Remember to line your lips with a lip liner and gently trace the outside of your lips with powder to keep it from feathering.

And Finally....

10. Baked to the MAX
Using bronzers is a great way to make you look young and dewey but use too much and people are FAUX sure to tell its caked on #FAIL.  Go easy on bronzers and choose one that is for your skin tone all bronzers are not made equal.  choose one too dark and you look muddy, too orange HELLO Oompa Loopma and to gold and well you'll be Goldmember from Austin Powers.  2-3 shades darker than your skin color is a good practice and use it on your hollows of your cheeks, jawline, nose chin and forehead lightly. The key is to looked a little sunkissed not total bake!

So practice good habits in 2011 everyone.... Happy New Years with Love J Zubire The Makeup Artist

Interning and Assisting Code of Ethics

Difference between ASSITING & INTERNING:
INTERNING: An observation process allowing those that aspire to be professional makeup artist a “bird’s eye view” of the role of a professional MUA.  There is a code for interning but since its fairly similar to the code for assisting let’s just go there!
ASSISTING:  it’s a more active role than that of an intern and requires that those assisting have the basic makeup artistry skills and knowledge and bale to perform them without my supervision.
Assisting in this circumstance is unpaid.  I like to pay my assistants.  Assistants do not earn the same rate as professionals.  So do not expect to be compensated the full rate. So here is the CODE of ETHICS for Assisting.
1.       Arrive 15 minutes or more prior to call time your mentor set. This speaks highly of you and be ready to work. Don’t come in all frazzled complaining about how far you drove the traffic, how your starbucks spilled over you or your kids hollering all morning save it I don’t want to hear it! Come with cash for parking if necessary regardless if I offered to cover that expense
2.       Personal Appearance: Nice toned down makeup that you do not need to keep retouching every 10 minutes.  Do not come in looking like a GLAMAZON it’s not necessary leave that to Alexa on Jerseylicious.  Minimal jewelry earring and a necklace are great. Bracelets often get in the way.  I like my assistants to come in all black or black and jeans or the J Zubire Makeup Artistry T-shirt and jeans.  Look business casual.
3.       No fragrance extra deodorant (we work under hot lights) manicured short nails. It’s not about making a big fashion statement it’s about looking professional. OH & no GUM!!!
4.       Allow your mentor to introduce you. If you are introduced by first name basis  it is expected for you to leave it as so.  Last thing you want your mentor to do is worry about your motives, and as a result cause stress and tension to the working environment. This is the time to build TRUST, INTEGRITY, and CONFIDENCE and build your work ethics!
5.       Do NOT in any case hand out your business card! This is your ticket OUT! No making buddies with the crew in order to create future contacts. Direct your attention and those of others to your mentor.  This is the GOLDEN RULE that will build trust and a professional rapport with your mentor and her clients. The name of the game here is RESPECT!
6.       So with that said don’t bring your portfolio your pictures show off your iphone gallery, or bring your biz cards.  If you are handed any business cards or information it is standard industry protocol to hand it over to your mentor immediately as well as if you are asked any questions or comments direct them back to your mentor, and if they want to contact you let them know that they are to contact you through Me (Mentor)
7.       Do not bring your kit or your camera unless asked to do so. Depending on the assignment I may ask for you to bring your brush set of all hairstyling tools and products but rules of thumb just bring YOURSELF!
8.       Be prepared to stay the ETNIRE TIME!!! No exceptions.
9.       Never be a NO-SHOW I have a 24hr policy and if you no-show you’re out!
10.   Check your EGO at the door, you are here to learn and observe!
There are many more code rules but these are the top! For a full list email me at j@jzubire.com  its about 7-8 pages long I swear!

Stage Makeup 101: Primers

After your skin is flawless, eyebrows are well groomed, and your skin is toned and ready to start your makeup, a primer is the first step to the process.

Primers have light diffusers, skin smoothers, and refined silicone and high def ingredients to help maximize the staying power of foundation and smooth out imperfections.

There are different primers I carry in my kit: MAC prep and prime, NARS primer, NARS Pro, Primer, and ARBONNE facial primer.

Each on works differently and have different emollients for different textures and needs.

For the most part stick to MAC prep and prime. It's has a silicone base, moisturizes and has tiny light diffusers that u can actually see or as IFBB Amy Lee Martin and I call it "sparkle-ies" and it's a super high def power.

I carry NARS because is super hydrating and very sheer. It has great high def power

The NARS Pro comes in a one inch by one inch compact. It is a solid cream and designed to reduce the appearance of fine lines. I use this primer on the eye area and fine lines around the mouth.

Arbonne face primer, is my favorite. It's silky smooth (ZOHAN lol!) seriously! It's satin finish and has long wear power and smoothes out imperfections to the max. It's nice and thick with a lightweight feel.

Then the trusty eye primers! Eye primers hold eyeshadows on tight for creaseless long lasting power. I love my mac paint pots. I've also tried the urban decay potion but I really love my paint pots and/or liners.

Apply primer to entire face before starting your makeup application. Use paint pots or eye primer before starting eyes. For those with dry skin use a little oil control mac lotion along with primer blend in palms of hand and apply to entire face.

Stay tuned for my next blog: "Stage Makeup 101: Eyeshadows to use or not to use color, that is the question.

Stage Makeup 101: Part 2 how to get clear skin!

So in my last blog I talked about toners. Here is a quick and natural facial mask and toner you can make at home to help you combat acne prone skin, acne scars and dry skin.

The facial mask can be used up to 7-10 days prior to your competition date. The toner can be used daily or every other day throughout your entire contest prep and post!

It's quick easy and you make it at home using the following ingredients: Apple Cider Vinegar, sugar, honey, and green tea!

Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV): those of us in the health and fitness industry love it's amazing benefits. Well when used in this mask and toner, the alpha hydroxy and amino acids help dissolve dead skin cells and fatty deposits in the skin. Its PH balance and helps unclog pores.

Sugar: helps exfoliate

Honey: it's a natural treatment for acne. It reduces redness and swelling!

Green tea: another favorite of our it detoxified the skin and repairs cells

Facial mask
1tsp ACV, 7 tsp sugar, 1tsp honey, 2 tsp green tea
Stir into a cement constancy use about 2 tsps full and store the rest in a jar refrigerate up to 3 weeks. Apply 2 tsp to face with a cotton ball. Using circular motions and fingertips gently massage mask for 3-5 min. Leave on for 10 min then rinse of. Use 1-2 times a week.

Toner
1part ACV 3parts green tea 1tsp olive oil (oil optional)
If it's too strong for sensitive skin use 5 part ratio 1part green tea 4 parts tea

Shake in jar and apply with a cotton ball my don't rub tap! Store in fridge and use daily.

I promise you will have softer smoother skin with less visible acne for those with extreme acne and for those with mild less episodes during competition prep!

Oh FYI use at night because ACV has a real pungent smell and don't use regular vinegar it's distiller and too hard on your skin. We are trying to get rid of acne not make it worse!

Stay tuned to Stage Makeup 101!
Thanks everyone!
